Blue Beehive Studio
Blue Beehive Studio was founded in 2012 by Melissa A. Moore. Initially intended as a jewelry store, the studio is slowly diversifying to include items for the home as well as stationary.
My inspiration is rooted in my own life: the studies of science, interactions with nature and different people, and from different cultures and society at large. Some of the pieces I create draw only from the natural patterns found in the stone or paper. More complicated pieces weave different symbols (drawn from science, mythology, and folklore) into wearable pieces of jewelry. To explore these interactions, I use a variety of materials, from stones and paper, to metals.
My background in science has helped shaped many of my current pieces. I received my B.S. in Biology from Loyola University Chicago, and later my M.S. in Biology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. While at the University of Illinois, I began a doctoral program in biology studying fungi, but eventually decided to leave the program to pursue adventures in Texas. While in Texas, I returned to jewelry production, taking a course in jewelry design and production at the Dougherty Art Center in Austin.
I currently reside in rural Ohio with my husband (a scientist who is another constant source of inspiration) and three children.

they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.”
